The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) has joined the ongoing agitation over alleged irregularities in a Special Investment Region (SIR), signalling that the protest movement is set to expand, according to reporting by The Hindu — National.
Actor and activist Prakash Raj voiced strong support for the demonstrations, addressing the determination of the protesting farmers and noting their history of sustained resistance against state opposition.
Broadening Demonstrations Over SIR
The entry of the SKM, a prominent umbrella body of farmer unions, marks a significant escalation in the demonstrations concerning the SIR irregularities. The collective's participation brings broader organizational backing to the local grievances, with organizers indicating that the campaign will intensify in the coming days.
Protesters have raised concerns over the administration and processes tied to the investment region, prompting farm leaders to consolidate their resources and build a larger mobilization effort across the area.
Resistance and Collective Mobilization
Prakash Raj highlighted the resilience of the agricultural community in the face of heavy-handed government measures during past protests, indicating that the current movement would maintain similar resolve.
"Despite the cannons, despite the bulldozers, despite stopping them, they won the battle, and they just can’t keep quiet anymore," Prakash Raj said, referencing the past demonstrations and emphasizing that the current campaign over the SIR dispute is poised to grow.
