An executive magistrate has extended the judicial custody of Citizens for Justice and Peace convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka by two days, keeping both leaders in jail through the festival period.
The decision followed a formal request by the Delhi Police, who sought further detention of the two individuals as part of ongoing proceedings, according to reporting by Accredited Wire Reports.
Extension of Custody
Under the magistrate's order, both Das and Ranka will remain confined in Tihar Jail for an additional 48 hours. The judicial extension comes as police authorities petitioned the court for continued detention to proceed with their legal actions involving the two convenors.
The court heard the arguments put forward by law enforcement seeking to prolong their remand before the magistrate ruled in favor of extending their confinement.
Detention Over Dusshera
With the custody extended by two days, both leaders will spend the Dusshera festival behind bars at the Tihar facility. CJP representatives and observers monitored the legal developments as the magistrate formalized the detention order.
Further legal steps and subsequent hearings are expected once the two-day judicial extension concludes.
