The Board of Control for Cricket in India has appointed former national spinner Pragyan Ojha as the new chairperson of the men's national selection committee, according to reporting by Accredited Wire Reports across multiple sports outlets. Alongside Ojha's elevation to the top post, former India off-spinner Ramesh Powar has been officially inducted as a member of the selection panel.
The administrative overhaul comes in the wake of the departure of previous chief selector Ajit Agarkar. The restructuring marks a significant shift in the leadership of Indian cricket talent evaluation, placing two former international bowlers in prominent roles within the board's operational setup.
Reorganization of the National Selection Panel
Under the new configuration, Ojha takes over the chief selector duties following Agarkar's exit, leading the committee responsible for choosing squads across all formats for the Indian men's national team. Reports confirmed by India Today, Cricbuzz, ESPN India, and The Times of India noted that the decision fills the vacant leadership position while maintaining a full complement of selectors.
Powar's appointment to the men's selection committee brings additional international and coaching background to the table. Both former players have represented India at the highest level, bringing extensive domestic and international playing careers to the committee room as the national team prepares for upcoming bilateral tours and multi-nation tournaments.
New Leadership for Upcoming Squad Selections
The revamped panel will immediately assume responsibility for assessing domestic performances and selecting squads for upcoming international assignments. Ojha and Powar are tasked with steering the panel through a pivotal period of transition across test, one-day international, and Twenty20 formats. The board has placed its confidence in the duo to navigate player workloads, bench-strength development, and high-stakes squad selections for forthcoming international fixtures.
