Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have uncovered a militant hideout concealed inside a natural forest cave in the border district of Rajouri, seizing a cache of explosives and ammunition, according to reporting by NDTV.
The operation led to the recovery of nine under-barrel grenade launcher (UBGL) grenades, along with an AK-47 assault rifle magazine and 18 rounds of live AK ammunition. The materials had been stashed inside the cave, which was being used to conceal arms in the forested terrain.
Arms Seized in Forest Operation
The recovery of the UBGL grenades points to the types of ordnance being routed into or stored across the forested belts of the region. Under-barrel grenade launchers are tactical weapons frequently paired with assault rifles to fire high-explosive projectiles across mid-range distances.
Alongside the nine grenades, the retrieval of an AK-series magazine and 18 rounds underscores the persistent stockpiling of infantry weapons in remote natural shelters. Security personnel moved in on the forest cave following specific intelligence tracking militant activity and logistics networks operating in the sector.
Security Sweep Across the Border Sector
Rajouri, situated near the Line of Control, has remained a focal point for counter-insurgency operations as security agencies continually sweep rugged terrain and dense woodlands to locate supply depots and infiltration routes. Natural caves and forested ravines in the district are periodically utilized by armed groups to hide logistical support materials away from regular patrol visibility.
Following the discovery, security forces secured the site and launched follow-up search efforts across the surrounding perimeter to ensure no additional arms caches or personnel were concealed in the vicinity. The retrieved explosives and ammunition were taken into official custody as investigations continue into the origin of the cache.
