NEW DELHI — Former international spinner Ramesh Powar has been appointed to the India men's cricket selection committee, while fellow former national teammate Pragyan Ojha has taken over as the panel's chairman, according to reporting by Accredited Wire Reports.
The administrative appointments mark a notable transition in the leadership responsible for picking the national men's cricket squads across international formats.
Leadership Shift on Selection Panel
Under the new structure, Ojha will oversee the group of selectors tasked with talent identification, squad composition, and strategic succession planning for Indian men's cricket. The selection committee holds central authority over national team rosters for bilateral series, ICC tournaments, and developmental squads.
Powar's induction brings another experienced former international player into the selection room. Both Ojha and Powar represented India extensively at the highest level, bringing recent top-tier domestic and international bowling backgrounds to the committee's decision-making process.
Cricket Administration and Squad Oversight
The changes come as India navigates a packed international calendar and transitions across various formats. The selection panel's role involves monitoring domestic performances in tournaments such as the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, as well as performances in the Indian Premier League.
With Powar joining the committee and Ojha serving as chair, the refreshed panel will be immediately engaged with upcoming squad selections and team management evaluations, according to the wire reports. Further administrative details regarding the full makeup of the committee are expected to follow standard national governing body protocol.
