NEW DELHI — Former India off-spinner Ramesh Powar has been appointed to the senior men’s cricket selection committee, according to reporting by Accredited Wire Reports.
The administrative move places the former international cricketer onto the panel responsible for identifying and selecting talent across all formats for the Indian national men’s cricket team.
Selection Panel Responsibilities
Powar's addition to the committee comes as Indian cricket continues to manage demanding domestic and international schedules. The national selection committee oversees squad decisions for Test matches, One-Day Internationals, and Twenty20 Internationals, while also coordinating closely with coaching personnel and monitoring performances in premier domestic competitions.
Selectors are tasked with assessing emerging players, managing the workload of multi-format competitors, and ensuring long-term continuity across the national squads.
Powar's Background in Indian Cricket
Powar previously represented India as an off-spinner in both Test matches and One-Day Internationals before transitioning into domestic coaching and administration following his playing career. Known for his tactical knowledge of spin bowling and conditions across India, his appointment brings direct playing and coaching experience to the selection room.
Further logistical details regarding the current structure of the selection panel and immediate evaluation duties were confirmed following the announcement of his appointment.
