CAIRO — The Central Bank of Egypt announced that national financial inclusion rates experienced a notable upsurge, reaching 76.3% across the country as of June 2025, according to official reporting released by the central bank (البنك المركزي المصري).
The updated indicator reflects the broader participation of Egyptian citizens in the formalized banking and financial ecosystem. The benchmark of 76.3% marks a key milestone in the central bank's ongoing regulatory efforts to expand access to transactional accounts, formal credit, and modern digital payment services nationwide.
Expansion of Banking Services
Financial inclusion initiatives in Egypt have focused on integrating previously unbanked and underserved segments into the formal economy. By widening the availability of banking infrastructure, the central bank aims to provide individuals and businesses with secure means to manage savings, receive payments, and obtain financing.
The regulatory authority has continued to encourage financial institutions to roll out low-barrier financial products, facilitate simplified account opening procedures, and expand mobile banking networks. The increase recorded by mid-2025 demonstrates measurable progress under these coordinated policies.
Digital Adoption and Economic Integration
The central bank's strategic focus emphasizes modernizing the payment landscape to transition away from cash dependence. Through national electronic payment systems and expanded digital infrastructure, formal access to financial services has grown increasingly accessible across urban and rural governorates.
Reaching the 76.3% inclusion threshold aligns with broader state economic targets to formalize business activities, enhance fiscal transparency, and strengthen overall macroeconomic resilience, according to data issued by the Central Bank of Egypt.
