Passengers traveling on Kashmir-bound buses have faced multiple attacks along transit routes in northern India, with incidents reported in Haryana and Punjab resulting in police detentions.
According to reporting by News18, travelers onboard a Srinagar-bound bus recalled harrowing moments during an attack in which assailants accused them of being terrorists. The confrontations have raised safety concerns for commercial transport moving along interstate highways toward Jammu and Kashmir.
Incidents in Karnal and Ludhiana
The hostility toward the transit vehicles has not been confined to a single location. The Times of India reported that following an initial attack in Karnal, Haryana, another Kashmir-bound bus was targeted with stones in Ludhiana, Punjab. The stone-throwing incidents damaged vehicles and spread panic among passengers making the journey north.
Eyewitnesses and passengers detailed how the attackers ambushed the vehicles en route. The stone pelting shattered windows and disrupted highway traffic, prompting local authorities in both states to coordinate responses along major transit corridors.
Police Action in Haryana
Law enforcement authorities have initiated an investigation into the highway violence. According to The Hindu, police in Haryana have detained two individuals for allegedly attacking a Srinagar-bound bus.
Investigators are examining whether the attacks in Haryana and Punjab were coordinated or carried out by separate groups targeting vehicles traveling to the Kashmir valley. Security has been heightened along key sections of the highway network to prevent further incidents against interstate passenger buses.
