Security personnel at Delhi Metro's Jama Masjid station detained a non-resident Indian passenger following a brief chase after screening equipment detected a suspicious item in his possession, according to reports by Accredited Wire Reports and Indian news agencies.
The incident unfolded when security scanners flagged an irregular item during standard transit checks. Station surveillance footage captured the suspect abruptly fleeing the screening point after an X-ray scan revealed what authorities identified as a suspicious semi-solid substance. A Central Industrial Security Force jawan pursued the fleeing man on foot outside the transit premises before apprehending him.
Screening Alert and Pursuit
According to accounts corroborated by India Today, NDTV, and The Economic Times, the passenger bolted immediately after security staff noticed the concealed material during the routine inspection process. The alert triggered an immediate response from the CISF personnel stationed at the entry points of the Jama Masjid metro facility.
Closed-circuit television cameras monitored the sequence of events as the individual attempted to escape into the surrounding area. The pursuing security officer intercepted and restrained the man, preventing him from exiting the wider station perimeter.
Detention and Further Inquiry
Following the capture, the individual was brought back into custody at the station for detailed questioning and examination of the seized material. Initial reports confirmed the passenger's status as an NRI, though officials have not publicly detailed the exact chemical composition of the semi-solid substance found on his person.
Security remains heightened across transit hubs in the national capital, where the CISF maintains primary responsibility for passenger screening, access control, and rapid response at all Delhi Metro network stations. Further investigations remain underway regarding the origin and nature of the concealed item.
