Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine did not receive any advance warning from the United States regarding a Russian missile barrage on Sunday evening, according to reporting by The Guardian — World.
The strikes, which targeted power plants in Kyiv, have renewed friction between Kyiv and Washington amid an ongoing row involving Donald Trump and his stance toward Moscow. Zelenskyy criticized the American administration, pointing to an apparent refusal to confront battlefield facts as tensions mount between the two nations.
Allegations of Withheld Intelligence
Zelenskyy warned that the lack of prior notification has revived concerns that Washington could be deliberately withholding intelligence. Officials in Kyiv fear such actions may be intended to pressure Ukraine into capitulating to Moscow.
The Ukrainian president accused Washington of a "denial of reality" in its broader handling of the conflict, pointing directly to the strained diplomatic dynamic and deepening policy disagreements regarding support for the Russian war effort.
Ukrainian Military Confirms Absence of Notice
The lack of intelligence sharing before the strikes was corroborated by the Ukrainian military following the attack on critical infrastructure.
Yuri Ihnat, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian Air Force, stated during a television broadcast on Monday morning that Ukraine had not received notice from the US concerning the inbound strikes. The attack caused damage to Kyiv power facilities, complicating Ukraine's efforts to maintain its strained energy grid under continued Russian bombardment.
The public dispute marks an escalating rift between Ukrainian leadership and Washington, highlighting growing friction over strategic alignment, intelligence dissemination, and the trajectory of international backing for Kyiv's defense.
