University of Oklahoma quarterback Jackson Stone has been named a semifinalist for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year award on Tuesday in Norman, Oklahoma, placing the senior signal-caller among the nation's premier student-athletes recognized for character and leadership on and off the gridiron. The Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year award, established in honor of the former Dallas Cowboys All-Pro tight end and Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year winner, focuses specifically on college football players who display exemplary leadership through character, integrity, academic discipline, and community service. According to an official Soonersports.com dispatch, Stone's nomination follows his extensive community outreach initiatives across the Norman and Oklahoma City metropolitan areas, paired with his steadying role inside the Oklahoma locker room. The honor comes as college athletics increasingly balances individual performance metrics with comprehensive personal conduct standards. Stone's inclusion on the national semifinalist list highlights his sustained commitment to public service projects, including youth mentorship, reading initiatives in local primary schools, and volunteer efforts supporting regional food banks during the offseason. ## A National Benchmark for Collegiate Character College football awards programs frequently spotlight statistical achievements, passing yards, touchdowns, and defensive stops. In contrast, the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year selection committee evaluates nominees against a demanding set of off-field standards alongside athletic competitiveness. The award specifically seeks out student-athletes who have overcome adversity, demonstrated courage under difficult circumstances, and served as public role models for their universities. Nominees must maintain strong academic standing while logging substantial volunteer hours in local civic and charitable programs throughout their collegiate careers. Selection committee members review detailed dossiers submitted by university athletic departments, detailing each player's campus leadership history, faculty evaluations, and verified non-profit outreach hours. Details confirmed in the University of Oklahoma athletic roster documentation demonstrate that Stone has maintained honor roll standing while pursuing his degree, anchoring the program's academic metrics alongside his gridiron preparation. Previous recipients of the Witten Award have set a high bar, using their platforms to spearhead community development foundations, anti-bullying campaigns, and hospital visitation programs across the United States. Stone's candidacy reinforces Oklahoma's broader athletic ethos, which stresses civic accountability alongside championship-level performance in Southeastern Conference play. ## Leadership Tested Across High-Pressure Transitions Stone’s tenure at Oklahoma has coincided with historic institutional changes for the Sooners, marked by high-profile roster transitions, coaching adjustments, and the program's inaugural campaign in the Southeastern Conference. Navigating these major competitive shifts requires vocal poise and operational stability from the quarterback room. Teammates and coaching staff members have routinely pointed to Stone's steady demeanor during rigorous film study sessions, spring conditioning drills, and fourth-quarter game situations. While modern college athletics is heavily influenced by rapid transfers and changing depth charts, Stone's commitment to team culture has provided an anchor for younger student-athletes finding their footing at the collegiate level. His on-field assignments demand rigorous tactical preparation, requiring dozens of hours each week diagnosing complex defensive schemes under the direction of Oklahoma's offensive staff. Off the field, Stone coordinates peer study groups and participates in departmental life-skills workshops designed to prepare student-athletes for professional careers outside of sports. These combined responsibilities make the semifinalist designation particularly notable. Balancing the athletic rigors of a Power Four football schedule with sustained civic engagement demands exceptional time-management discipline, a quality the selection committee explicitly prioritizes when narrowing the candidate pool. ## Community Footprint Across Norman and Oklahoma City Beyond the practice facility, Stone has established a consistent presence across regional philanthropic efforts. During his time at Oklahoma, he has actively participated in university-sponsored hospital visits, engaging with pediatric patients at the Oklahoma Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City and supporting cancer awareness events on campus. He has also served as a guest speaker for local elementary school reading programs, encouraging young students to prioritize education, physical wellness, and constructive teamwork. Further coverage highlighted in regional sports updates on Oklahoma collegiate football releases emphasizes that Stone's involvement is not confined to mandatory team appearances, but includes independent volunteer hours with local faith-based and community service organizations. Collegiate athletic administrators track community engagement closely, recognizing that student-athlete visibility carries significant influence among youth populations. Stone's willingness to dedicate weekend and holiday hours to direct service projects has drawn consistent praise from university faculty representatives and local civic organizers alike. Such work mirrors the community-first legacy established by Jason Witten during his collegiate career at Tennessee and his 17-season tenure in professional football, where Witten created his own SCORE Foundation to assist families affected by domestic violence. ## Historical Precedent and Program Legacy The University of Oklahoma football program holds a rich history of producing national award candidates whose off-field integrity matches their athletic prestige. From historic Heisman Trophy winners to national academic honorees, the Sooners have consistently placed players on prominent watchlists that emphasize holistic student-athlete development. The Witten Award holds a distinct place among these accolades because it does not limit eligibility based on positional statistics or national ranking. Linemen, specialists, and skill players are evaluated equally, with the selection panel weighing the authentic human impact of a candidate's service over media exposure or draft positioning. By securing a spot as a semifinalist, Stone joins an exclusive fraternity of college football leaders across the country who represent the highest ideals of collegiate sportsmanship. For the Oklahoma athletic department, the recognition provides external validation for its ongoing student-athlete development programs, which invest heavily in leadership seminars, media training, and career networking opportunities. This holistic approach serves to prepare players for post-collegiate life, whether that path leads to professional football franchises or administrative, commercial, and philanthropic careers in the private sector. ## Selection Timeline and Upcoming Milestones The Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year selection process now advances to its final stages ahead of the winter announcements. The national selection committee, which includes former NFL coaches, celebrated college football analysts, and athletic directors, is currently reviewing the semifinalist pool to determine the three primary finalists. According to official award guidelines outlined by the organizing body, the three finalists will be publicly announced in mid-December following the conclusion of the regular season and conference championship fixtures. The three chosen players will subsequently travel to North Texas for the formal awards banquet. The eventual winner of the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year award will be revealed during the seventh annual awards dinner in February, scheduled to take place at The Star in Frisco, Texas, the world headquarters and practice facility of the Dallas Cowboys. The recipient will receive a substantial donation made in their name to their university's athletic scholarship endowment fund, directly aiding the next generation of collegiate student-athletes. For Stone, the immediate task remains locked on game preparation, academic final examinations, and leading his teammates through their remaining competitive slate, while the selection committee concludes its national evaluation. *Contextual Intelligence: Verified sector background corroborated in our coverage on Ball State Football Hosts Sacramento State for Homecoming.* *Contextual Intelligence: Verified sector background corroborated in our coverage on Arkansas High School Football Reshapes Playoff Races.*
