MUMBAI — Former India spinner Pragyan Ojha has taken over as the chairman of the Board of Control for Cricket in India's senior men's selection committee, succeeding Ajit Agarkar at the helm of the panel. Former national spinner Ramesh Powar has also been inducted into the selection committee, according to reporting by Accredited Wire Reports.
The administrative transition marks a notable restructuring in Indian cricket's decision-making apparatus. Ojha assumes leadership of the committee responsible for assembling national squads across all three international formats, stepping into a role previously guided by Agarkar during recent bilateral and ICC tournament campaigns.
Leadership Transition in Men's Selection
Ojha, who represented India in 24 Tests, 18 One-Day Internationals, and six Twenty20 Internationals, brings extensive domestic and international experience to the chief selector's position. The left-arm spinner claimed more than 100 Test wickets during his international career and has remained actively involved in Indian cricket administration and media following his retirement.
Agarkar's departure concludes his tenure overseeing national team selections, during which the selection panel focused on workload management, transitioning younger talent into senior lineups, and balancing multi-format demands.
Powar Joins the National Panel
Alongside Ojha's appointment, Powar joins the committee to bolster the panel's regional and tactical breadth. An experienced off-spinner who played two Tests and 31 ODIs for India, Powar previously served in coaching capacities within Indian domestic and women's national cricket setups.
The reconstituted panel under Ojha will take charge of critical squad announcements and talent identification across upcoming international fixtures. Further operational details and terms regarding the reconstitution of the committee remain aligned with BCCI administrative guidelines.
