Former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha has taken over as the new chief selector for the Indian national cricket team, replacing Ajit Agarkar in the role, according to reporting by Accredited Wire Reports.
Alongside Ojha's elevation to head the selection committee, former Indian international Ramesh Powar has also been appointed as a new selector to the panel. The leadership transition marks a notable change in the composition of the governing body's decision-making apparatus for national team rosters.
Leadership Transition on the Selection Panel
Under the new structure, Ojha steps directly into the position previously held by Agarkar. The chief selector carries the primary responsibility of setting squad priorities, consulting with team management, and steering future player roadmaps across formats.
Ojha, who represented India as a specialist left-arm spinner during his active playing career, brings extensive domestic and international experience to the post. The shift ends Agarkar's tenure at the helm of the national selection committee.
Powar Joins Committee Ranks
The panel's retooling also incorporates Powar, who joins the national selection committee as its newest member. Powar, a former international off-spinner who has held various coaching and administrative positions in domestic and national setups, will assist Ojha in scouting, monitoring player workloads, and choosing squads for upcoming tours and international tournaments.
Further logistical details regarding the broader panel structure and the exact duration of the newly assigned roles are expected as the board regularizes its operations under Ojha's leadership.
