KHAMMAM — Left parties and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) are preparing to stage a joint dharna in Khammam to protest alleged political bias in the selection of beneficiaries for the Indiramma housing scheme, according to reporting by The Hindu — National.
Opposition groups have voiced concerns over the implementation of the housing program, arguing that partisan considerations are influencing the distribution of units intended for economically disadvantaged residents. The planned demonstration aims to demand transparency and fair execution of the scheme across the district.
Allegations Over Housing Beneficiary Selection
The dispute centers on claims that the allotment process has been skewed to favor specific political interests. Representatives from the BRS and Left parties have challenged the criteria and procedures used to identify eligible families, asserting that deserving applicants are being sidelined due to political interference.
The Indiramma housing initiative, designed to provide permanent shelter to low-income households, remains a major policy focus in Telangana. However, the opposition argues that administrative oversight has faltered, prompting the political parties to join forces and take their grievances directly to the public through a coordinated protest in Khammam.
Opposition Mobilization in Khammam
The decision by the Left parties and the BRS to organize a joint agitation reflects mounting political friction over welfare delivery in the region. Organizers intend to use the dharna to pressure authorities into reviewing the allotment lists and ensuring that welfare programs operate without political partiality.
Local administrative officials have not yet announced any formal revisions to the selection framework as opposition leaders coordinate logistics for the upcoming demonstration.
