KOCHI — The Kerala High Court has directed the release of ₹9.73 crore to settle 225 pending victim compensation claims, ensuring financial assistance reaches eligible recipients across the state, according to reporting by The Hindu — National.
The judicial direction addresses longstanding claims requiring compensation disbursement, establishing an immediate path for clearing verified backlogs under the legal framework governing victim support.
Streamlining Documentation Procedures
Alongside the financial allocation, the court introduced specific administrative measures to prevent procedural hurdles in future disbursements. The bench directed the secretaries of the respective District Legal Services Authorities to actively collect all required documents from victims while their cases remain pending before the court.
By securing vital records in advance, judicial officials aim to remove systemic bottlenecks that historically slowed down the processing of claims. The procedural shift is designed to ensure that the moment compensation is awarded, funds can move directly into beneficiaries' accounts without prolonged administrative verification.
Preventing Distribution Backlogs
The court emphasized that gathering necessary paperwork during ongoing trials is essential to eliminate unnecessary wait times for victims seeking state aid. The timely coordination between trial courts and the District Legal Services Authorities is expected to accelerate relief delivery for both present and future legal proceedings.
