NEW DELHI — India projects that its agrivoltaic capacity will exceed 5 gigawatts within the next three to four years, according to reporting by The Hindu — National citing government officials.
Santosh Sarangi, secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), shared the projections while addressing reporters ahead of the upcoming 7th Agrivoltaics World Conference. The international summit is scheduled to take place in New Delhi from October 21 to October 23.
Expansion of Dual-Use Solar Systems
Agrivoltaics combines agricultural production with solar energy generation on the same land. The system allows crops to grow beneath elevated solar panels, optimizing land efficiency and potentially diversifying revenue streams for farming communities.
The forecasted growth to more than 5 gigawatts represents a major scale-up in integrating renewable energy into agricultural landscapes across the country. The anticipated deployment aims to support broader clean energy initiatives while ensuring that productive agricultural acreage remains active.
Global Conference in New Delhi
The 7th Agrivoltaics World Conference serves as a forum for policymakers, industry specialists, and researchers to discuss technical, economic, and regulatory aspects of dual-use farming and energy systems.
With New Delhi hosting the gathering, the MNRE's announced target outlines the nation's strategy to expand dual-use energy installations in the coming years.
