A missile strike launched by Houthi forces on a military training camp in southern Yemen has killed at least 50 security recruits, local authorities reported.
The attack targeted a site in the government-controlled province of Shabwa, according to reporting by BBC News — World. Local officials stated that the facility was actively serving as a training center for new security recruits when the bombardment took place.
Three Missiles Strike Shabwa Facility
According to regional authorities, three separate missiles struck the training compound. The impact caused heavy casualties among the newly enlisted personnel who were gathered at the site.
The installation, located in government-held territory, was being utilized to prepare recruits for operational duties before the sudden barrage hit the grounds.
Impact on Regional Security Forces
The lethal strike represents a significant blow to forces aligned with the internationally recognized Yemeni government in Shabwa province. Local officials have attributed the assault directly to Houthi forces, who have regularly deployed ballistic missiles and armed drones against government-held positions and military installations throughout the prolonged conflict.
Authorities in Shabwa have not immediately released full figures regarding the number of injured personnel, but the death toll of at least 50 recruits underscores the severe vulnerability of rear-echelon assembly and training sites to long-range strikes.
