An elderly passenger sustained injuries after a bus traveling from Delhi to Srinagar was attacked in Haryana, sparking calls for swift intervention from Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, according to reporting by Accredited Wire Reports.
The incident in Haryana was followed by a subsequent attack in neighboring Punjab, where another Kashmir-bound bus was targeted with stones in Ludhiana. The consecutive incidents have raised security alarms for transport operators and travelers traversing the northern interstate corridor connecting the national capital to the Kashmir valley.
Escalating Incidents Along Transit Routes
The initial targeting took place in Haryana, where stones were hurled at the Delhi-Srinagar passenger vehicle, resulting in injuries to an elderly commuter. Following the event in Karnal, a similar assault occurred the next day in Punjab, where assailants targeted another bus headed for Kashmir.
Media reports collated by Accredited Wire Reports, including coverage from Hindustan Times, The Times of India, and NDTV, indicate growing concerns among passengers regarding targeted violence. In some instances, travelers reported facing verbal abuse and hostile labeling during the transit episodes, highlighting an unsettling rise in hostility along regional highway networks.
Official Response and Police Custody
Following the violence, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah urged authorities to take strict action against those responsible for targeting Kashmiri commuters. State leadership emphasized the necessity of ensuring the safety of interstate transport and safeguarding travelers from harassment and physical harm.
Law enforcement authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter. According to the wire dispatches, police in Haryana have detained two individuals for their alleged involvement in attacking the transit vehicles. Security monitoring along the highway corridors running through Haryana and Punjab remains heightened as officials review transport safety protocols.
