NEW DELHI — Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party leader LK Advani was discharged from a hospital in New Delhi after his health condition showed improvement, according to reporting by The Times of India.
The former deputy prime minister had been receiving medical care at the facility before doctors determined that his recovery was sufficient to permit his release.
Discharge Following Medical Care
The 96-year-old political figure was allowed to return home after physicians assessed his progress, The Times of India reported. Hospital authorities cleared the discharge following an evaluation that confirmed his overall condition had improved during his time under observation.
Advani, one of the co-founders of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, has largely remained out of active public life in recent years while staying at his residence in the national capital. Details regarding the exact nature of the medical concerns that prompted his initial admission were not immediately detailed in the preliminary dispatch.
Decades of Public Service
Advani stands as one of the most prominent figures in modern Indian political history. He played a pivotal role in the rise and national expansion of the BJP throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, helping shape the party into a primary contender in Indian politics alongside former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Over his decades-long career, Advani served in key constitutional roles, including as the Union Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister in the National Democratic Alliance government from 1999 to 2004. Earlier this year, the veteran leader was conferred with the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honor, in recognition of his extensive service and contributions to the nation.
