Fresh clashes in Manipur have left three people dead and several others injured, prompting angry local residents to abandon a victim's body outside the official residence of the state chief minister, according to reporting by Accredited Wire Reports.
The renewed bloodshed marks an escalation of unrest across the northeastern state, where administrative authorities are struggling to maintain order amid persistent communal tensions.
Unrest Spreads to Thoubal and Hill Districts
Clashes broke out across multiple areas, including Thoubal district, where at least one person was killed and several individuals sustained injuries during confrontations. In response to the worsening unrest, local administrators quickly clamped prohibitory orders on Thoubal to curb public gatherings and stem further friction.
The violence has also expanded into new territories, with clashes shifting toward hill districts. In Kamjong, suspected militant attacks resulted in the death of a Kuki civilian and the torching of roughly 15 homes, underscoring the volatile security landscape across rural pockets of the state.
Administrative Shakeup and Public Outrage
Following the violent episode and arson in Kamjong, state authorities ordered an immediate transfer of the district superintendent of police, according to wire accounts.
The administrative measures did little to pacify enraged local residents, who carried the body of a clash victim directly to the chief minister's residence to register their outrage over the security breakdown. The protest highlights intense public frustration as inter-community conflict continues to displace residents, destroy property, and claim lives across both valley and hill districts throughout Manipur.
